This past week we celebrated my mom's 50th birthday. Ssshhh... Don't tell her that I told you that. She is having a rough time celebrating this birthday.
I have a great mom. One reason is because she always made everything special. Birthdays, holidays, accomplishments... Our birthday was our VERY SPECIAL day and we felt very loved. One year I wanted a Pocahontas birthday and my mom made me the neatest cake that looked just like Grandmother Willow. No matter what holiday we always made festive sugar cookies and got to frost them however we wanted. It was so fun and I looked forward to it. My mom always let us know how proud she was of us, no matter what the occasion or accomplishment. One year I was in the Spelling Bee and she bought me a special outfit to wear and sent me balloons and took lots of pictures. When I won we had a special party to celebrate me. But even if I hadn't won, I knew she would have been just as excited that I tried my hardest.
My mom is always willing to listen to me. Even if I don't tell her, she knows if I am upset and she wants very much to make everything better. She always listens to me and wants to make me happy. I'm sad that sometimes I didn't take the opporunity to share more with her when I was younger. But now we are great friends and talk everyday on the phone.
My mom taught me how to love other people. When I was younger we were always serving others. My mom was always concerned that everyone felt loved and was taken care of. That taught me that everyone was important and I should always be looking for ways to help other people.
My mom is so fun. She always wants to have a good time. Even when times were difficult she wanted to make sure that we were happy. My mom made a lot of sacrifices to take care of me and my sisters and make sure that we always had the very best and what we wanted. Now that I am a mom I realize she did those things because she loved us, but I am sorry that I was ungrateful for all she did for me.

Happy Birthday Aunt vickie! I think now that we are all moms we understand so much more of what our moms were doing for us. That is a very handsome little boy behind you and your mom!
